Please join us at
“The Legacy of the Shoah and the Modern Maccabees of the IDF”
our second lecture and presentation on “Israel and the Shoah”
Wednesday, March 25, 2015, 7:15 – 9:00 pm in the Chapel
From liberation of the death camps across Europe and the release of the remaining prisoners, and from the survivors recuperating in the former hellholes that had served at their prisons, and from the fighters in the partisan groups who emerged from the forests, and from those who hid in basements, cellars and caves through the height of Nazi terror as they resisted with heart, mind and body the horror of the Holocaust, and from those detained in the DP camps of post-World War II, came an unstoppable wave of strength, courage and determination to live free as Jews in a land of their own, wanting to realize the 2000 year old dream of returning to the ancestral Promised Land: Israel.
Join us, as Bill A. Surkis, former Executive Director of the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre will lead us through the survivors journeys from liberation via the European ports of debarkation and land routes across Asia, to the running of the British Blockade of Palestine, the early integration of these heroes with the Sabras, early pioneers and young men and women from throughout the determined in making Israel a reality today .
The lecture, extensively supported by photos, film and video clips, will bring the audience through the history of Israel’s fight for existence from the War of Independence to the last incursion of the IDF into Gaza in an overview highlighting Israel’s day-to-day determination to be certain that NEVER AGAIN is real and not merely a convenient slogan.
