Dear Fellow Congregant,
It is with the greatest of pleasure that I write to you today on behalf of the Board and Executive. As you know, during the past year our congregation has seen significant personnel changes taking place, with the departure of our Rabbi and Executive Director.
We are now in the process of working toward consolidating our organization and as a result, I am pleased to inform you of the new people you will be meeting in the coming months. With their help, we intend not only to grow, but to flourish in the coming year.
Rabbi Michael Gisser has agreed to officiate as our guest rabbi at Congregation Beth El’s High Holiday services this year. His close family connection, coupled with his knowledge and enthusiasm, I am certain, will bring a warmth and a dynamism to our services. I welcome him and his family, and am looking forward to us worshipping with him.
We are actively continuing our search for a permanent full-time Rabbi, and we will be surveying all congregants shortly to solicit input toward finding the individual who will meet our longer term collective needs. Our committee remains open to hearing from you while it continues to explore all available avenues and approaches, and I will provide further periodic updates when I have them.
In every synagogue, there are members who, from time-to-time, would appreciate the assistance of someone who could help them through a difficult life period. I am very pleased to announce that Karen Cahana will be available in this capacity to any and all of our members. Her gentle manner and her quiet wisdom have already made her much-loved and admired by all of us, and I am certain that she will help to bring comfort to those who seek her out.
Stuart Eiley has graciously accepted our offer to become our Interim part-time Executive Director. His considerable experience in both business and accounting will bring both stability and expertise to the role, and he is supported by our current office team.
To add an additional dimension to our High Holiday services, I am delighted to announce the return of Lisa Needleman-Wein and Sylvia Andelsman-Zimmerman. We all remember the wonderful High Holiday Youth services of two years ago and I am confident that the coming youth programmes will add excitement and interest for our younger members.
We held our Annual General Meeting on June 15th, and I am pleased to announce that seven new young and dynamic members will be joining our Board for the upcoming two-year term. And I am very happy to confirm that Maxine Bercovici will be joining me as Co-President. I am confident that this dynamic start will help keep Beth-El at the forefront of Conservative Judaism in Montreal.
I look forward to greeting each of you personally at the High Holiday services.
Seth Dalfen, President
