Life-Long-Learning Lecture, ”NEVER AGAIN: The Legacy of the Shoah and the Might of the Modern Maccabees of the IDF” Much Appreciated by All
An impressive turnout of men and women sat motionless in their seats in the Brown’s Family Chapel, glued to a presentation on the Shoah and modern Israel, presented by Bill A. Surkis on March 24, 2015. Bill, a staunch member of the synagogue, shared his deep sentiment about Israel and how it serves to protect Jews throughout the world as their moral, physical, and spiritual home.
Bill traced the history of the Shoah, the involvement of the Hagannah in bringing survivors to British mandated Palestine, the Aliyah-Bet and the ship Exodus that proved a crucial turning point in the creation of the State. He examined the foundation of the State, reviewed its wars, and showed the power and might of the IDF.
Bill’s background as an educator, his deep devotion to Israel, and his nearly 10 years of service as Executive Director of the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre, his multiple visits to Poland and Israel, and his commitment to bring that history to a wider audience allowed the members a rare glimpse into a deeply touching past.
We thank everyone for coming, and we thank Bill for all his efforts towards preparing such a memorable presentation.
