Each of these objects represent an act of heroism in the face of inexplicable horror. Each has a history. Each represents a moral victory over tyranny, oppression, and wanton murder, and each will be discussed in a new six part lecture series.
Congregation Beth-El is pleased to announce that Bill A. Surkis, former Executive Director of the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre, has developed a six part lecture series on “Resistance during the Holocaust” examining the bravery, determination, and strength of those individuals who stood up against the Nazis and their collaborators with valiant acts of physical and moral resistance.
The series, based on his current research in resistance during the Shoah, will be supported with audiovisual materials, film clips, and more.
The first lecture in the series will remember Kristallnacht (November 9 and 10, 1938) when a nationwide state-sponsored pogrom, the “Night of Crystal,” brought waves of violent anti-Jewish attacks against people and property across Germany and Austria. The lecture will feature a In commemoration of those horrific events, and the cruel history of the Holocaust that soon followed.
The schedule and content for the following five lectures will be provided on November 9. 2015 at this inaugural session.
